Porter Sr. joins MU basketball coaching staff
COLUMBIA -- At least one member of the Porter family will return to mid-Missouri.
Michael Porter Sr. has accepted a job on Cuonzo Martin's staff at Missouri. Dave Matter of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch first reported the news on Thursday evening. MU later confirmed the hiring.
Porter coached on the Mizzou women's staff from 2010-2016. He left last season to Lorenzo Romar at Washington. Romar was fired last week.
Washington also released Michael Porter Jr. from his national letter of intent on Thursday. Porter Jr. played at Tolton High School in Columbia for three years before moving with his family to Seattle last summer. Porter Jr. was named the Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year after leading Seattle's Nathan Hale High School to the Washington 3A state championship.
Porter Jr. said Wednesday he will consider returning to Columbia to play for Mizzou next season. He told reporters "It could be something real, real special just to come home and do my thing there."
