Missouri crowned its fifth NCAA wrestling champion on Saturday night. For the first time in program history, a true freshman brought home the title.
Hickman grad J'Den Cox claimed the 197-pound championship with a 2-1 win over Ohio State's Nick Heflin on Saturday night. Cox took the lead for good when Heflin was called for stalling with 30 seconds left in the final period. Heflin nearly won the match with a late takedown, but a review determined the takedown occurred after time had expired.
Cox finished his freshman season with a record of 38-2. He won four state titles at Hickman, while posting a career mark of 195-3 in high school.
