PARIS -- Former Mizzou wrestling standout J'Den Cox claimed bronze at the 2017 World Championships on Friday.

Cox opened his run with three straight victories. He beat Germany's Ahmed Ruslanovic Dudarov 6-1 in the opening round. Cox followed that with a 9-6 win over Ville Tapa Heino of Finland and a 3-2 victory over Poland's Zbigniew Baranoski.

Cox dropped his semifinal match 6-3 to Boris Makoev of Slovakia. He rallied to beat Mhail Ganev 8-0 in the third-place match.

Cox becomes the first MU wrestler to win a medal at the World Championships. He also won bronze at the 2016 Olympics last August and claimed his third NCAA title in March.
