Local 'Empty Bowls' event aims to fight hunger and homelessness

Empty Bowls paint days are every Wednesday through April (The Salvation Army).

The Salvation Army in Jefferson City will host its second annual Empty Bowls event in an effort to end hunger and homelessness.

Local artists and volunteers are encouraged to paint hand-glazed ceramic bowls every Wednesday in April at Capital Arts from 12 p.m to 5 p.m.

KRCG 13 will help design bowls on April 12.

Lt. Rachel White with the Salvation Army appeared on KRCG 13 Live at Sunrise to talk about the event.

She said this year will be even better with a silent auction featuring hand-crafted serving bowls.

At the event guests can also enjoy unique soups made by local restaurants.

Empty Bowls will be on August 1 starting at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $20 and include a decorated bowl. All the proceeds benefit the local Salvation Army Center of Hope.
