Update: Woman indicted in bank robberies

Update: Thursday, Jan. 13 at 6:10 p.m.:

A federal grand jury indicted the Jefferson City woman accused of robbing a bank and credit union.

Dwashan T. Thompson, 38, was charged in a 2-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Jefferson City on Thursday.

The indictment alleges that Thompson stole $1,605 from the Missouri Credit Union on West Edgewood Drive on December 20.

It also accuses Thompson of taking $11,850 from Hawthorn Bank on West Truman 8 days later.

Update: Thursday, Jan. 6 at 3:45 p.m.:

A judge granted a public defender to the woman charged with robbing a bank and credit union in Jefferson City.

Dwashan Thompson appeared in a Cole County courtroom Wednesday afternoon. She waived her formal arraignment. The preliminary hearing is set for February 7.

She TMs charged with 1st and 2nd degree robbery for the holdups at Hawthorn Bank and Missouri Credit Union.

Jefferson City police say Thompson confessed to the crimes.

Update: Thursday, Dec. 30 at 2:25 p.m.:

Prosecutors charged Dwashan Thompson with 1st and 2nd degree robbery charges.

Cole County jail officials say she's still in jail. Bond has not been set.

According to court records, Thompson was on bond for a separate bank robbery in St. Peters, Missouri. Records also show Thompson pleaded guilty to stealing back in 1996. She was on unsupervised probation for 30 for that conviction.

According to court documents, an officer and a detective with the Jefferson City Police Department said they found items used during the robberies in her home and car. Those items include a blue bag she had tellers put money in, clothing she wore while robbing the banks, and stolen money.

Officers said after they read Thompson her Miranda rights, she admitted to Hawthorn Bank and Missouri Credit Union.

Update: Thursday, Dec. 30 at 7:20 a.m.:

The name of the arrested woman has been released.

The Cole County Sheriff's Department says Dwashan Thompson was the woman arrested on Wednesday for two Jefferson City Robberies.

Update: Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 2:45 p.m.:

Jefferson City police arrested the woman they took into custody.

Officers say she TMs not only suspected in the Hawthorn Bank robbery, but also the robbery at the Missouri Credit Union on West Edgewood. That robbery took place on Monday, December 20.

Police say an interview with the woman led to the arrest.

When they searched her vehicle, police say they found evidence of both crimes in her car.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.

The suspect is in the Cole County jail. Since charges have not been filed, police are not releasing the woman TMs identity.

Update: Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 1:35 p.m.:

Jefferson City police confirmed they took a female into custody Wednesday morning in connection with a robbery at Hawthorn Bank.

Officers say the woman is 38 years old.

Officers said they pulled her over in the 3500 block of U.S. Highway 50 West. Her vehicle matched the description of the car used in Tuesday night TMs robbery. Jefferson City police and Cole County deputies assisted in the stop.

Police said the investigation is still ongoing. The police department, sheriff TMs department, and the FBI are investigating the case.

Update: Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 12:10 p.m.:

Jefferson City police have taken a person of interest into custody who may be involved in Tuesday TMs bank robbery on West Truman.

Just before 11 a.m. officers, along with troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, pulled over a silver vehicle on Highway 50 just west of the Route 179/Commerce Drive exit.

Police told KRCG they hope to release more information Wednesday afternoon.

When we spoke with the highway patrol, an official there said the patrol is no longer involved in the investigation and the FBI took over.

Update: Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 7:05 p.m.:

Jefferson City police said the suspect drove up to the drive-up window, threatened a teller and indicated he or she had a weapon. However, police say the suspect did not show a weapon.

Officers say the teller gave money to the suspect, who then drove away from the area.

Police aren TMt sure if the robber is a male or female. The suspect was wearing a black ski mask and a black t-shirt. Police say the suspect appears to be short.

Police believe the suspect is in a silver or gray Chrysler Sebring or Cirrus. The vehicle has 4 doors with spoke-type wheel rims.

Jefferson City police are investigating a bank robbery at the Hawthorn Bank at 3701 West Truman Boulevard.

The call came in at about 5:40 p.m.

Early reports indicate the suspect wore a stocking cap and black shirt.

Police are looking for the get-away vehicle.

KRCG spoke with a worker at a business across the street from the bank, he told us he saw police cars outside the bank.

An official at the Jefferson City Police Department said officers will release more information soon.
