UPDATE: One boy found, another still missing

Jonathan Shay, who is autistic, is still missing in the woods of Phelps county.

One of two Phelps County boys who went missing at about 8:00 Thursday evening in a heavily-wooded rural area has been found, but the other boy, who is autistic, is still missing.

According to Sgt. Cody Fulkerson of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 11-year-old Xavier Baylor was found Friday by a member of the Patrol's Marine Division walking along Dry Fork Creek. He is in good health, but told officers he had not seen the other missing boy, 13-year-old Jonathan Shay, for about three hours. Shay is autistic.

Fulkerson said a Highway Patrol helicopter is being deployed, along with numerous officers, including several members of the Marine Division, in the search.

He describes the area being searched as heavily-wooded area near the intersection of Highways 8 and 68. He said Shay has a history of wandering off, and he is unsure of the degree of disability caused by his autism.

Fulkerson said the boys were at one of their family's homes when they just disappeared. "One minute they're there, the next, they're not," he said.
