The official holiday season is still a few weeks away, but mid-Missouri seem to already be in the giving spirit. The United Way of Central Missouri has raised $1,600,006 so far for the 2009-2010 Community Campaign. Their original goal was around $ 1.6 million. They held their thank you celebration this morning in Jefferson City at the Missouri Farm Bureau. During the breakfast co-chairs Mike Kehoe and Warren Krech thanked local businesses for their help.United Way campaigners were overwhelmed with the support during the down economy.Having lived in this community for almost 20 years I know how passionate they are about helping others," said Linda McAnany."People have huge hearts here in central Missouri and we knew that going in, but we knew things are a little bit tough and these people responded, said Kehoe. You know the United Way is made up largely of gifts from individuals and there's over 8,000 people that made this number happen today."Money raised will fund the work of the 25 United Way of central Missouri agencies and programs.
