UM Curators approve budget and Title IX changes

The $21 million in new state funding for the University of Missouri was approved by the state legislature and is pending final approval by Governor Jay Nixon.

The University of Missouri Board of Curators unanimously gave their approval to overhaul their rules and regulations on sexual assaults and student conduct procedures during their meeting on the Mizzou campus today.

The changes apply to the University??s Title IX programs that don??t allow sex discrimination in programs that get federal funding.

Last week, University officials hired Linda Bennett as a full-time Title IX coordinator.

Bennett replaces a part-time coordinator just 2 months after an outside investigation found the University did not have a policy for reporting possible sexual assaults.

The report showed the University mishandled the investigation of an alleged sexual assault on swimmer Sasha Menu Courey.

Courey took her own life in June 2011.

The Curators also approved the system??s Fiscal Year 2015 budget, which is slated to include an additional $21 million in performance funding to support campus strategic initiatives in year 2 of the University??s 5-year strategic plan.

The $21 million in new state funding for improved outcomes was approved by the state legislature and is pending final approval by Governor Jay Nixon.
