Former Columbia police officer Rob Sanders is not guilty of assaulting inmate Ken Baker.
A judge announced the verdict shortly after 10:30 a.m. at the Boone County Courthouse.
Sanders was caught on surveillance tape in 2011 pushing Baker into a concrete holding cell and injuring his head and back.
Columbia Police Chief Ken Burton fired Sanders and took his search dog after the video went viral on the internet.
The judge ruled Sanders acted within his training and police department policies.
Sanders plans to get his job back.
Sanders said, â??This has been a 2 year battle, basically. Itâ??s a 3 prong battle. First was getting my dog back. We successfully did that. The second was clearing my name criminally. The third is up coming. That is to clear my name through the department, get my job back and go back to work as a Columbia police officer and with the canine unit.â??
Cole County Prosecutor Mark Richardson acted as a special prosecutor in the case.
Richardson said the case deserved a public trial based on the video and he accepts the judgeâ??s not guilty ruling.
