Since the July 4th weekend, Columbia police officers have stepped up their efforts to help stop recent gun violence.
They have changed their schedules and increased their hours to investigate and solve these crimes.
The Columbia Police Departmentâ??s Proactive Patrol made 16 felony arrests and recovered 5 guns since the holiday weekend.
Police Chief Ken Burton started the new patrol in February in response to an increase in shootings and other crimes.
Columbia Police Lt. Eric Hughes said, â??Itâ??s allowed us to put more resources out on the street and more police officers out on the street in a two man marked police unit. Itâ??s an effective way to put more resources out on the street and curb some of this.â??
Columbia police need your help with the recent gun violence.
They want you to call CrimeStoppers at 573-875-TIPS to remain anonymous.
