      Police say proactive patrols are working

      Columbia police officers say their efforts to help stop recent gun violence is working.

      Officers have changed their schedules and increased their hours to investigate and solve these crimes.

      The Columbia Police Department??s Proactive Patrol made 16 felony arrests and recovered 5 guns since the 4th of July weekend.

      Assistant Police Chief Jeremiah Hunter said, ??The cooperation that we are getting has probably increased. They see more of us, obviously. They have opportunities to contact us out on the street. It??s just being more available.??
