Nixon expresses opposition to armed teacher legislation

Governor Jay Nixon sent out a letter today to the superintendents of each of Missouri's public school districts stating his opposition to legislation that would arm teachers.

Nixon said that missouri already has strong laws in place, citing the Missouri Safe Schools Act of 1996.

He goes on to say that "this legislation would put our children at risk and limit the ability of local school districts to keep their schools safe."

The governor concluded his letter by thanking the superintendents for their commitment to the students, and told them that in the the coming weeks he would engage with Missourians to find solutions to keep Missouri schools safe.
