New cell tower will help firefighters

A St. Louis Company has agreed to build a new cell tower in the backyard of the Boone County Fire Protection District headquarters building.
St. Charles Tower Incorporated signed a 5-year lease agreement with fire district officials to build the cell tower in a wooded area near the fire districtâ??s back parking lot.
The contract allows all Boone County emergency services to boost the signal and reception strength of their communication equipment at no cost.
The tower company will pay $800 a month to lease the land.
The new tower will also provide better service for public cell phone users.
Right now, some northwest sections of Boone County have weak cell phone reception and that causes problems for firefighters and other emergency workers.
