Man honored with the Spirit of Christmas

A local man was honored Wednesday for keeping the spirit of Christmas alive.

The Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Department recognized Jack Steppelman with the Spirit of Christmas Award.

Steppelman's home on Leslie Blvd. in Jefferson City is decked out for the holidays and has been for years.

In fact, he started preparing his decorations on July 5 last summer.

The Parks and Recreation Department said it is important to recognize Steppelman in a special way.

"he's been doing this for years and ya know, he really just embodies the spirit of Christmas, The department's Phil Stiles said. People from all over like to come out and witness it and i think it's a tradition in most families to come out and view the winter wonderland that he puts up."

Steppleman has decorated since he was a teenager living with his parents

He says Jefferson City has always been good to him and this is his way of giving back.

The lights at the Steppleman household can be seen through new years eve.
