JCMG breaks ground on Women and Children's Center

Doctors, staff and children broke ground this morning on the new JCMG's Women and Children's Center.

During a special ceremony, new plans for the building were unveiled and doctors spoke about the excitement for the new building.

The center, which is next door to the JCMG campus, will have about 24,000 square feet of new clinic and office space.

Construction will employ nearly 250 local people.

"It's a combination of technology plus you have an aggregation of resources, technology and physicians in one place, so that a person can come here and receive a variety of medical services to meet their various needs and the other members of their family's needs, JCMG doctor Robert Wankum said. You don't have to always be getting in the car and trucking across town to go and get a lab test and go to this doctor and that doctor. We offer most, not quite all, but most services that people would generally need."

JCMG was launched in 1993 with just 11 physicians, today it's one of Missouri TMs largest multi-specialty groups with 75 physicians in 25 medical specialties.

After the ceremony unveiling, runners and walkers hit the pavement for JCMG's annual fun walk/run.
