Next Tuesday is the birth date anniversary of children's author Dr. Seuss, which means it is time once again for the Read Across America campaign by the National Education Association.
Missouri NEA kicked off this year's event at the Special Learning Center in Jefferson City, where Missouri TMs first lady Georganne Nixon read to a group of pre-schoolers.
"Developing that sense of the love of reading is very important for all or our kids," MNEA President Chris Guinther said. "I think parents get so busy with jobs and activities that they sometimes forget how much they enjoyed reading when they were children.
MNEA is hosting two dozen events for Read Across America.
The program provides children with books, bookmarks, and place mats.
