Columbia bus riders scavenging for free fares

The scavenger hunt is part of an effort to promote a new Double Map smartphone App.

Columbia bus riders are scavenging for free fares this week.

Columbia transit officials are asking riders to look for giant pictures of smartphones placed at bus stops each morning and afternoon this week.

The first person to find each picture's location will receive a four-month bus pass.

Organizers hope this free promotion increases city bus ridership.

Columbia Public Works spokeswoman Teresa White said, ??As awareness increases of the services that we offer and people become aware of our smart phone app Double Map, then people will be more aware of how to use the service.??

The scavenger hunt is part of an effort to promote a new Double Map smartphone App.

Double Map shows a map of Columbia??s bus routes, including football shuttles on Mizzou game days.
