Columbia community leaders broke ground Thursday morning on a $20 million expansion of Boone Hospital Center.
The new South Campus Medical Plaza will sit at the corner of Nifong and Forum boulevards.
The new facility will be home to 4 buildings with a total of 125,000 square feet of space for health care services.
The medical plaza is scheduled to be open for business early next summer.
Boone Hospital Trustee Chair Fred Parry said, â??Itâ??s a chance for us to expand our footprint in this community. Itâ??s a chance for us to bring our services to the people of South Columbia and make it more convenient for them.â??
The plaza will include a memorial park for fallen Columbia Police Officer Molly Bowden.
The park will have a reflecting pool, park benches and access to a walking trail that winds through the new development.
