Boone County ham breakfast future in jeopardy

The 69th annual ham breakfast may be the last of its kind at the Boone County fair, pending a decision by the county commissioner.

The breakfast is put on by people involved in the ham show and traditionally held on the last day of the fair, when participants can dine together while the winners are recognized.

The president of the fair board says that Boone County is facing a cash crunch, and may not be able to adequately fund next year's ham breakfast, which hundreds of people from the surrounding area attend each year.

Several people who attended the breakfast are hoping that the county commissioner may be able to reach an equitable arrangement with the fair board on how to proceed next year, so that the breakfast does not become a bygone tradition.
