Blood drive honors fallen police officer

The blood drive is scheduled to end at 6 p.m. tonight.

A blood drive is underway in honor of a fallen Columbia police officer.

Molly Bowden was shot in the line of duty and died shortly afterwards 9 years ago.

Family members, friends and members of every Boone County emergency service are asking the public to donate blood at Columbiaâ??s Grace Bible Church near the corner of Rangeline Street and Blue Ridge Road.

It is the 6th Annual Molly Bowden Memorial Blood Drive.

Organizers and members of the American Red Cross collected 107 units of blood last year.

They want to collect at least 110 units this year.

Columbia Police Sergeant Chad Craig said, â??We chose a blood drive in honor of Molly because when her incident first happened in 2005 we had a blood drive to supply her with blood. We had more than 150 people give on that day. In honor and the memory of that we have done this year after year as a remembrance.â??

The blood drive is scheduled to end at 6 p.m. tonight.

The doors will stay open until everyone has a chance to give blood.
