More Missouri farms using irrigation for crops

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The number of farm acres being irrigated in Missouri is rising at a faster rate than the rest of the nation.

The National Agricultural Statistics Service says Missouri has 1.2 million acres of irrigated land. That's up 16 percent since the last irrigation survey was conducted in 2003.

During that same time, the number of acres being irrigated nationally rose by less than 5 percent.
