Local firefighters climb 110 flights to honor 9/11 first responders

Wednesday marks the 12th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks which killed thousands.

Firefighters from across the state, including five from the Jefferson City Fire Department and others from the Boone County Fire Protection District, Linn Fire Protection District and Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District, honored the 343 members of the Fire Department of New York who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Each participant carried a picture of one of the fallen fighters on the 110 story climb, which is the same number of floors the firefighters climbed in the twin towers.

The event raised between $35,000 and $40,000 for survivor programs of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
