Woman's lie during dog rescue leads to charges

A Missouri woman thought she was doing a good deed by getting a dog left tied to a pipe to shelter on a cold night. Instead, she's facing criminal charges.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 34-year-old Jessica Dudding of Lincoln County found the yellow Lab in a vacant lot on a cold December night. She called the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department, but a deputy said the county had no facilities for strays.

Dudding took the dog to a shelter in nearby Wentzville.

The problem is that when an officer asked where she found it, she lied and said Wentzville. When the owner came forward and Wentzville authorities learned the dog was from Lincoln County, Dudding was charged with a misdemeanor for her lie.
