Woman raped, kidnapped, then escapes

Men formally charged with Forcible Rape, Kidnapping and Armed Criminal Action.
Cole County Sheriff's officials confirm Gregory Vowels, 20, and Clifton Sparkling, 21, both of Jefferson City, have been formally charged in all three counts. Both men remain in the Cole County Jail Sunday night on $500,000 bond.
A Holts Summit woman was raped by two Jefferson City men and then kidnapped for a short time before she managed to escape, according to Jefferson City Police.
Police say the twenty two-year-old woman was on the 400 block of E. Capitol Ave when the assault occurred. The suspects have been identified by police as Gregory Vowels, 20, and Clifton Sparkling, 21, both of Jefferson City.
After the assault took place, police say one of the men drove her through Holts Summit. She managed to escape and run to a house on Summit Drive for help. She was taken to the hospital.
Holts Summit Police found and arrested one of the men and took him to Jefferson City where he was interviewed by Jefferson City Police. Later Saturday, the other man was identified and brought into custody by Jefferson City Police.
Both men are being held in the Cole County jail pending charges of Forcible Rape, Kidnapping and Armed Criminal Action.
