Woman dies in early-morning car fire; children uninjured
One woman is dead, the apparent victim of a Columbia car fire that occurred in the early morning hours Tuesday on Grindstone Parkway at Bearfield Road.
According to Columbia police, emergency crews were called to the scene at 1:18 Tuesday morning. When firefighters arrived, they encountered a vehicle off the roadway fully engulfed in fire. Crews were able to extinguish the fire in about five minutes.
The body of a female victim was found inside. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Two young family members of the victim, ages two and six, were located nearby uninjured.
An investigation revealed that the fire was intentionally set, but no foul play is suspected.
