Woman arrested for defrauding elderly woman of nearly $30,000
Wed, 07 Nov 2012 21:38:59 GMT — A Sturgeon-area woman on probation for fraud was arrested Tuesday by Boone County sheriffâ??s deputies on suspicion of defrauding family members and financially exploiting an 80-year-old Columbia woman she lived with of tens of thousands of dollars.Michele Brown was being held in the Boone County Jail awaiting bond to be set on charges of probation violation, fraudulent use of a credit device, forgery and financial exploitation of the elderly.Sheriffâ??s detectives were contacted Tuesday by family members of both Brown and the 80-year-old woman accusing her of financial misdeeds. Brown and the 80-year-old were employed by the same company several years ago, and Brown moved into the womanâ??s home on Kinloch Court in May 2010.At this time, detectives believe Brown opened up numerous credit cards in the womanâ??s name and charged at least $29,000. That amount is expected to go higher. Detectives are combing through numerous financial documents to fully determine the extent of the crime.
