      'Witness issue' leads to dropped murder charge

      Jose Hurtado, the prime suspect in a 2011 Cole County murder case was released from jail Tues,day after the prosecutor dropped the charge.

      The prime suspect in a 2011 Cole County murder case was released from jail Tuesday after the prosecutor dropped the charge.

      Jose Hurtado was charged with second-degree murder in the December 2011 shooting death of Francisco Navarro. The shooting occurred in the Apache Flatts mobile home park.

      Prosecutor Mark Richardson said it was a "witness issue" that hurt his case. He added that he will review the case to see if charges will be re-filed later.

      Cole County Sheriff Greg White expressed concern over the turn of events, but said he was legally bound to release Hurtado.
