Winter Weather Advisory issued in anticipation of Monday snow

Winter Weather Advisory for mid-Missouri Monday evening.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for several mid-Missouri counties.

  • A Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service in St. Louis for Callaway, Montgomery, Audrain, Boone, Gasconade, Osage, Moniteau, and Cole counties is in effect until 12 a.m. Tuesday.
  • A Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service in St. Louis for Callaway, Montgomery, Audrain, Boone, Gasconade, Osage, Moniteau, and Cole counties is in effect until 12 a.m. Tuesday.
  • A Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Springfield for Morgan, Miller, Maries, Benton, and Camden counties is in effect until 12 a.m. Tuesday.
  • A Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service office in Kansas City for Chariton, Saline, Howard, Randolph, Pettis, and Cooper counties is in effect until 9 p.m. Monday.

As of 4:30 p.m. Monday, pockets of freezing drizzle were expected to mix with snow and will continue to impact portions of mid-Missouri Monday evening. This will make for slick road conditions as precipitation falls on the evening commute. Plan to find delays on roadways due to inclement weather.

Light snow is expected to fall Monday from 2-8 p.m. across the north-central portion of mid-Missouri. This system will move from west to east, starting in Chariton County, continuing to move along the I-70 corridor through the afternoon, and moving out of Montgomery County last later Monday evening.

The advisory is specifically for Callaway and Mongomery counties as the northeastern portion of our viewing area has the potential to see the bulk of the snowfall.

Accumulations look to reach up to an inch at most with Monday night's system, but that is not the main concern. The fresh, falling snow has the potential to refreeze to pavement, causing slick roads around the evening commute.

Plan for a slower commute and slick roads Monday evening. For updated road conditions, check the MoDOT traveler map.

Stay tuned to see if there will be any more counties added Winter Weather Advisory Monday afternoon.

This is not the last chance for snow over the next 48 hours. More snow returns Tuesday evening, where up to two inches on average could fall by Wednesday morning.

Tuesday's wintry weather pattern will impact all of mid-Missouri in the window of 2 p.m. - 2 a.m. This system is still one day away, and the exact timing and location of the heaviest snowfall can shift between 1 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Keep an eye on the forecast over the next 48 hours, and make sure to follow the Weather Authority Team for all the lastest weather information.
