Students and community members came together to remind others the value of their life.

Students from William Woods University and the National Foundation for Suicide Prevention mid-Missouri chapter put on a ‘Out of the Darkness’ Suicide Prevention Walk on Saturday.

Two students who have focused their studies on mental health helped spearhead the organization of the event.

Participants wore different colored beads each representing loved ones lost, personal struggles and or support for prevention.

"We need to reach out to the students and the kids to let them know there are programs out there," said foundation board member Beth Hendren.

"There are things out there for them for suicide prevention and they're not alone."
