Water main break in Jefferson City affects state buildings

Motorists are being urged to use caution in the area of West Main Street and Missouri Boulevard as crews work to repair a water main break.

A water main break in Jefferson City has affected a number of water customers, including two large state government buildings, and disrupted traffic in the area of West Main Street and Missouri Boulevard.

According to Missouri American Water Company, several customers in the area will be without water until approximately five o'clock Wednesday, including the State Archives building and the MoDot building.

The broken water main is a large circumference, 14-inch pipe.

According to the Jefferson City Public Works Department, various lanes of traffic are blocked off while crews work to make repairs. The eastbound lane of West Main has been closed while repairs are made.

Road crews are expected to be on the scene until at least 6:00 p.m., according to a spokesman for Missouri American Water Company.

Motorists are advised to use extreme caution in the area.
