A large water main break in Jefferson City is not expected to be fixed until 8:00 or 10:00 p.m. Friday evening.
The 10" diameter cast iron pipe ruptured at approximately 1:30 Friday afternoon, and has affected traffic in the 500 block of Dunklin, just south of Missouri Boulevard. Traffic will be slowed in the area through the evening rush hour Friday.
Only one water customer is without water, according to a spokesman for Missouri American Water. Water customers will not need to boil their water as a result of the break.
A spokesman for Missouri American Water said he could not be sure what caused the break, but that the infrastructure in the area is old and under a lot of stress.
