Jefferson City Police identified the two women involved in a serious car accident in Callaway County Tuesday evening.
Police say 28-year-old Katherine O'Neal of Holts Summit was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee and initially stopped on Wehmeyer Rd. in front of the ABB Plant, then pulled out onto MO RT 94 in front of a Jeep Wrangler driven by 37-year-old Laura Adamik.
O'Neal's vehicle caught fire, trapping her inside. The first police officers on the scene, along with bystanders, used fire extinguishers in an attempt to extinguish the fire while also trying to remove O'Neal from the burning vehicle. Firefighters arrived and began fighting the fire and extricated the driver from the Jeep. Oâ??Neal was immediately transported from the scene to University Hospital in Columbia, MO.
Adamik, who is from Tebbetts, was transported from the scene by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. Police reports indicate both drivers appeared to have been wearing their seat belt.
The accident happened just before 5:30pm Tuesday.
According to a law enforcement officer on the scene, one vehicle was pulling onto the highway from Wehmeyer Road near the ABB plant, and collided with another car that was headed eastbound on Hwy 94.
One car caught fire.
One victim was rushed to Columbia with severe injuries and the other was taken by ambulance to a Jefferson City hospital.
