      Unbuckled child injured in accident

      Elizabeth Klaus turned herself into the Boone County jail after an arrest on suspicion of her third DWI and 2nd degree assault.

      Update: Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 10:00 p.m.:

      A Columbia woman now faces charges following a wreck that happened earlier this month.

      Prosecutors charged Elizabeth Klaus with endangering the welfare of a child and 2nd degree assault.

      On August 8, officers say Klaus drove off Route E near Twin Bridges. The vehicle traveled for nearly 300 feet and stopped just short of a creek. Her five-year-old son was seriously injured after being ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing a safety device. He was treated and released from the hospital shortly after.

      According to the highway patrol, she was arrested for suspicion of DWI, however, prosecutors did not charge her with that.

      Klaus has two previous DWI convictions.

      Update: August 11 at 10:45 a.m.: The Boone County Prosecutor's Office says they are still waiting on paperwork to decide if formal charges will be made against Elizabeth Klaus.This morning, the prosecutor's office said they still had not received the accident or investigation report from the Missouri Highway Patrol.They have, however, filed an arraignment date against Elizabeth Klaus. She will appear in court on September 7. The charges for that arraignment are unknown at this time. Update: August 10 at 1:05 p.m.:Elizabeth Klaus was released from the hospital on Tuesday and turned herself into the Boone County Jail. She posted a $9,000 bond after an arrest on suspicion of a third DWI and 2nd degree assault.According to the Boone County Prosecutor's Office, her case is still under review for formal charges.Lucas Klaus was also released from the hospital.Update: August 9th at 9:31 p.m.:

      Elizabeth Klaus was arrested on suspicion of her third DWI and 2nd degree assault. She has bonded out of the Boone County Jail.

      Update: August 9 at 2:35 p.m.: The driver of the vehicle, Elizabeth Klaus, 32, of Columbia was arrested for DWI, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.The Highway Patrol report showed she was held at University Hospital and then released.Original Story:A car crash seriosuly injured a young boy in Boone County Monday night.

      The five-year-old was a passenger in a vehicle that ran off the road on Route E near Twin Bridges and Wilcox Road.

      Firefighters tell us the car traveled for nearly 300 feet and stopped just short of a creek.

      They found the boy outside the vehicle. He was life-flighted to University Hospital.

      The driver, 32-year-old Elizabeth Klaus of Columbia, was also taken to University Hospital with minor injuries.

      The Highway Patrol report indicates the boy was not wearing a safety device.
