One person is dead and another has life-threatening injuries after a two vehicle accident in northeast Columbia Thursday morning.
According to the Columbia Fire Department, crews were called to the scene just after 6:40 Thursday morning where they found one vehicle upright in the roadway and the other off the roadway.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a 2003 Ford Mustang driven by Rene Lopez-Espinoza, 34, of Columbia was Northbound on Route B near Oakland Church road when he drifted off the right side of the road, overcorrected, travelled across the center line, and was struck by a 2009 Toyota Corolla driven by Richard Nelson, 60, of Hallsville.
Both drivers had to be extricated. Lopez-Espinoza was pronounced dead at the scene; Nelson was transported to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
