A man is in jail after reportedly cutting two women with a knife in Jefferson City.
Early Thursday, just after 1:00 a.m., Jefferson City Police Officers went to the 900 block of Harding Avenue for an assault in progress involving a knife.
When officers got there they found two women with stab wounds requiring medical attention.
The suspect's girlfriend, 27, had a serious stab/slash wound across her throat, and the other victim, a 44-year-old woman from Jefferson City, had a moderate to minor stab wound to her back.
Investigating officers determined that Michael Lutz, 32, began accusing his girlfriend of stealing from him while he was incarcerated.
The altercation began in another area of town, but it escalated on Harding when Lutz threatened to cut the victimâ??s throat.
The 44-year-old victim and another man tried to intervene by hitting Lutz, and during the course of that struggle, Lutz was able to cut the his girlfriends throat then stab the other woman.
According to police, Lutz left in a vehicle after he was hit several times, sought medical treatment for his injuries, and was then arrested.
Lutz is in the Cole County Jail on charges of Domestic Assault 1st Degree, Assault 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action.
Both victims are reported to be stable, neither wound is life-threatening.
