Two injured in early morning shootout

Update: Wednesday Sept. 21, 2011 8:11 a.m.

The Pulaski County prosecuting attorney, Kevin Hillman, announced Wednesday morning that they will be seeking charges against a man following Monday's shooting incident.

Everett Fields of St. Roberts is accused of assault in the first degree, receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, and armed criminal action.

Authorities say during a search of the home, it became apparent that the incident was not a random home invasion. They found numerous items of drug paraphernalia along with controlled substances.

This does not appear to be a case of a homeowner protecting his home from a burglar. Instead, it appeared to be a drug deal gone wrong and an unarmed person was hit in the cross-fire. This situation was very dangerous and had the real potential of getting an innocent person injured or killed, said Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Hillman.

Fields was arrested with a bond set at $100,000.

Original Story:

Early Monday morning, authorities in Pulaski County responded to a shooting incident on Highway Y near St. Robert, MO.

When Pulaski County deputies arrived on scene they established that an unknown number of people had approached the residence while two people were inside.

Several shots from a .44 Magnum revolver were fired from inside the home, directed at the people. At the same time, several shots from a 9mm handgun were fired from outside the residence.

One man inside the home received a gunshot wound to the upper leg. A female subject outside was hit in the kneecap with a round from the revolver. After giving incomplete statements, both subjects were taken to area hospitals, with the woman later being taken to a hospital in St. Louis.

Pulaski County deputies are investigating the incident and have been given additional support from a deputy who has advanced training in forensic evidence.
