The Boone County Commission recognized two public works employees Thursday for helping a Boone County man get his wheelchair back.
While working on Phillipe Road in August, Gordon McCune and Adam Reddick met resident Jeff Guyer, who had been struck by a careless driver late one night in June. Guyer lost his wheelchair in the incident and thought the driver who struck him had taken it. McCune had found a wheelchair by the roadside and asked Guyer if it was his. It turned out it was, and McCune repaired the damage to it. He told KRCG the damage was minor and only required a trip to the hardware store to find the right parts.
"That's what I thought needed to be done, was get it back to him," he said.
Both men were very humble about the recognition they received from the commission, saying they simply did what was right.
"More or less, I was just there as a friend to talk to him," Reddick said. "He was telling all kinds of stories. Didn't really sound like he had a whole lot of people to talk to."
McCune said he has worked for Boone County for almost 16 years. Reddick said he has worked for the county for about a year and a half.
