Two arrested after nearly striking a Callaway County deputy

According to the Callaway County Sheriff's Office, two people were arrested Saturday evening after they attempted to strike a deputy with their truck.

Deputies said Kathleen Morey, 29, of Columbia was driving on County Road 269 when a deputy tried to stop her vehicle.

Morey fled from the deputy on various county roads in Callaway County before continuing the chase into Boone County according to a press release.

While pursuing the vehicle in Boone County, the deputy became face-to-face with Morey's car. She turned around and drove head-on at the deputy, nearly missing his vehicle.

Deputies continued to pursue the truck to O'Rear Road in Boone County at which point deputies took the 29-year-old woman and her passenger Daniel Peek, 28, into custody.

Both Morey and Peek were transferred to the Callaway County Jail.

Morey is facing charges of exceeding the posted speed limit, operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, resisting arrest and other traffic charges.

She was also arrested on two Boone County warrants for failure to appear and an unrelated theft investigation from a commercial business in Millersburg on September 21st.

Peek remains in custody on charges of stealing related to a theft investigation at a commercial business in Millersburg on September 13th.

The investigation is ongoing.
