Three injured in crash after driver falls asleep

Three people were hurt in an accident on Highway 50 Monday morning after the driver of one car fell asleep at the wheel.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, 30-year-old Jennifer R. Poynter fell asleep at the wheel, crossed the median near Truman Blvd. and struck a car going eastbound. Another driver swerved to avoid the collision, travelled off the left side of the roadway and overturned.

Poynter and the driver of the vehicle she hit were transported to Capital Region Hospital. Poynter suffered minor injuries, while the other driver suffered moderate injuries. The driver of the overturned car refused treatment at the scene.

All three were wearing seatbelts.
