Three-car crash sends four to the hospital

The three-car crash sent four people to the hospital.

Four people were taken to local hospitals for treatment after a three-car crash at Madison Street and Highway 50 in Jefferson City Saturday morning.

According to Jefferson City Police, 48-year-old Joseph Porter was driving southbound on Madison Street in a 2001 Mitsubishi Gallant when he didn't stop at a red light.

Police say Porter went into the intersection and hit a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 22-year-old Ericka Smith. Smith's car then traveled southbound on Madison and crashed head-on into a 2009 Chevrolet Impala driven by 62-year-old James Lepper.

Lepper's car was stopped in traffic at the time.

Porter, Smith and the passengers in both cars were taken to local hospitals.

In Porter's car was 46-year-old Octavia Townes. In Smith's car was a seven-year-old girl who was not identified.

Lepper declined medical assistance at the scene.
