Texas Gov. Rick Perry to meet with Pres. Obama over immigration issue
Wed, 09 Jul 2014 03:23:48 GMT — A spokeswoman for Texas Republican Gov. Rick Perry confirms that Perry will be among the officials meeting with President Barack Obama in Texas tomorrow to discuss how to deal with the flood of immigrants from Central America who are crossing from Mexico into the United States. Many of those immigrants are unaccompanied minors. The spokeswoman says Perry wants to talk about the "humanitarian and national security crisis" there. Obama today asked Congress for $3.7 billion to deal with the situation. Some of the money would go toward the detention, care and transportation of the children who arrive without family members. The money would also be used to boost the capacity of immigration courts and increase surveillance at the border. But House Speaker John Boehner (BAY'-nur) says the proposal falls short. A spokesman says Boehner wants to see the National Guard used to provide "humanitarian support" in the areas that are affected.
