A Missouri tax official has pleaded guilty for her role in approving about $158,000 of fraudulent tax refunds from January 2009 through last September.
Rosellyn Delores Otto of Meta pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court to two counts of mail fraud. Her plea comes after James Edward Bruhn, of Springfield, also pleaded guilty last month to mail fraud.
Otto worked in the taxation division of the Missouri Department of Revenue. Bruhn operated a Springfield business called EB Lawncare.
The U.S. Attorney's office says Bruhn submitted fraudulent claims for motor fuel tax refunds, and Otto approved the refunds. The two then split nearly $128,000 in proceeds from the tax refunds.
Prosecutors said Otto also received about $30,000 in a separate but similar scheme.
Sentencing dates will be scheduled later.
