Suspect arrested after deputy finds pipe bombs, drug paraphernalia

Deputies took a suspect into custody Tuesday night after finding explosive devices during a vehicle stop.

Cole County Sheriff John Wheeler stated in a release a deputy had stopped a car in the 7200 block of Heritage Highway just before 9 p.m. for a traffic violation.

After gaining consent to search the car, the deputy found two pipe bombs and drug paraphernalia. A search of the subject's residence ended in finding two more pipe bombs, a detonation cord and more drug paraphernalia, a release stated.

The suspect, who was not identified, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an explosive weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner.

Wheeler stated the sheriff's department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and the Missouri State Highway Patrol continued to work the investigation.
