The Jefferson City Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department is launching summer camp May 29.

Programs sponsored by the city include Binder Adventure Camp, Camp Eagle, Camp Green Berry, Camp Out N About, Camp Wokka Wokka, and Washington Park Day Camp.

"Kids are always nowadays saying how bored they are. They're never bored at camp. We have so many fun activities and things to do. You're outside in nature, nothing is more fun," Summer Camp Coordinator for the department, Angie Toebben said.

Toebben also said summer camp is a great opportunity for children to make new friends.

"They meet new friends all the time. They can make very lasting friendships and nothing is better than that. It's a variety of activities and we always change things up," Toebben said.

Binder Adventure Camp is for children entering fourth and fifth grade in the fall. Camp activities include canoeing, fishing, archery, hiking, and more. The camp hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Camp Eagle is for children entering sixth through eighth grade and is also at Binder Park. Campers will learn a higher level of outdoor skills appropriate to those older ages. Camper groups have some set activities but have a wider choice of activities depending upon interests. Camp hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Camp Green Berry is for children entering kindergarten through fourth grade. Camp Green Berry is a nature oriented program. Campers will learn about conservation and nature ethics. Natural crafts and nature activities also highlight the program. Camp hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Camp Wokka Wokka is for children entering kindergarten through third grade at Memorial Park. Campers will participate in activities such as arts and crafts, games and physical activities, cookouts, hikes, nature study, field trips, and more. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Green Berry is for children entering kindergarten through fourth grade. The camp is a nature education program, but also includes activities and games. Camp Green Berry hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Out N About is for students entering first grade through sixth grade. The camp is sports oriented, but it isn't not a skills camp. Campers will play a variety of recreational games and sports. Each week the camp will take a field trip to a different community location. The camp hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
