Mon, 13 May 2013 22:41:19 GMT — Hundreds of Centralia Public School students are making a difference for the lives of 12 Mid-Missouri veterans.Students held a fundraiser for the Central Missouri Honor Flight.The organization uses donations to provide free trips to Washington D.C. for veterans.The whirlwind day-trip allows World War II veterans to see their war's memorial in the Nation's Capitol.Centralia students collected $3,600 through several fundraisers, including the collection of pocket change during a penny war competition.Organizer Kelly Dickerson ??They brought in pennies to where the teachers could not start class until they counted all of their pennies. All together, adding all of the minutes that it took them count, it was 13 hours and 45 minutes. It was $850 worth of coins in one day.??Centralia teachers said their Honor Flight fundraiser was a great way to teach their students about veterans and how to respect them.
