Student housing could replace Columbia mobile home park

Columbia city council members are scheduled to vote on a proposal tonight that would rezone the Regency Mobile Home Park near the intersection of Highway 63 and Nifong Boulevard.

The plan would replace the trailer park with a new housing complex designed for college students.

The rezoning would force the eviction of low-income families like Bill and Patty McNeal.

The McNeals say many of their neighbors could become homeless if they are forced to move.

Bill McNeal said, We can find a place to move our trailer. Some of the rest of these people aren TMt even able to move their trailers. They TMre too old. They TMll fall apart before they get them halfway out of the park.

If council members approve the rezoning of Regency Mobile Home Park, then residents have 180 days before they face eviction.
