Storm damages homes and property in Montgomery County

The Red Cross said they gave assistance to 4 adults and 1 child who were living the trailer.

Missouri residents are still cleaning up tonight after strong storms swept across the state.

Yesterday??s storms caused thousands of Missourians to lose power, destroyed a mobile home, blew the roof off a school and caused damage to numerous roofs near Montgomery City.

High winds damaged a mobile home about 7 miles north of Montgomery City. The Red Cross said they gave assistance to 4 adults and 1 child who were living the trailer. Jerry Fischer lives next door and said the violent storm lasted about 40 minutes.

Fischer said, ??It just pretty well turned dark and came up. The straight line winds were strong. The gusts is what, I think, peeled the roof off. It was a strong gust at one time.??

Closer to town, John James and his neighbor were busy cleaning up debris from a fallen tree. The tree barely missed John??s house.

John didn??t hear a thing when the tree tumbled down. He said all that he could hear was the rain and the wind pounding against his window. It didn??t take him long to notice the damage.

John was talking to his son on the computer when the storm hit.

John said, ??It was mainly coming out of the south and west. Then, it came more out of the west. I??m glad it did because I??m afraid it would have hit the house if it came from another direction.??

Montgomery City Police report no serious injuries from the storm.
