Stolen SUV full of teen runaways crashes into bridge

Four of the five teens involved had been reported runaways from Iowa.

A 15-year-old girl was seriously injured when a car full off teenage runaways from Iowa crashed into a bridge and overturned in sourthern Boone County Sunday morning.

Emergency personnel responded to the area of Hartsburg Bottom Road and Bush Landing Road around 8:20 a.m.

Deputies with the Boone County Sheriff's department found the 15-year-old girl with substantial injuries and a 15-year-old boy with lesser injuries.

The wrecked car at the scene, a 2001 gray Chevrolet Blazer, had been reported stolen from a town near Des Moines, Iowa.

Deputies learned that three other teens in the SUV at the time of the crash had run away from the scene in the direction of the Missouri River.

Deputies and State Troopers found those three, a 15-year-old girl and two boys, aged 13 and 16, nearby.

Four of the five teens involved in the crash had been reported as runaways from Iowa.

The seriously injured girl remains in the hospital Monday. The injured boy was treated and released to juvenile authorites, along with the three others who fled the scene.
