State Treasurer unveils first unclaimed property kiosk
Tue, 05 Apr 2011 17:43:26 GMT —
State Treasurer Clint Zweifel unveiled and demonstrated his first prototype of an unclaimed property computer search kiosk.
People have found nearly $6,000 in unclaimed property through more than 400 kiosk searches since January at Columbia TMs Department of Revenue License Office.
Columbia is the first city in Missouri to get a kiosk.
Zweifel said the device makes it easier for Missourians to find their unclaimed property and file claims.
All searches and claims are conducted in a safe and secure manner, free of charge.
The average amount found on the kiosk is $55.
Zweifel said, It helps us with lower dollar claims. We have a lot of individuals that, maybe in the past, they wouldn TMt process or collect that $25 or $40 claim because they thought it was too much work. Now, it TMs even easier for them to do so.
Money from the State Treasurer TMs Unclaimed Property Department paid for the Columbia kiosk. Zweifel plans to operate a second kiosk in Jefferson City TMs Truman Building in the near future.
1 in 10 Missourians has unclaimed property.
