Tue, 16 Mar 2010 03:47:59 GMT — St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City Monday celebrated the opening of a new center for women. The Women's Imaging Center is located in the St. Mary's Health Plaza building beside the hospital. It has parking designated for the new center and that's one reason why the staff believes the new center will make it easier for women to get in and out of their appointments quickly. And it's location outside the hospital will offer more privacy. The center has a machine to measure bone density, a diagnostic ultrasound and a new digital mammogram machine. It also boasts a nurse navigator to educate women and help them through the exam process. Doctors say the digital machine is better than the hospital's older film mammograms machines especially for younger women with dense breast tissue. Hospital officials report the digital mammogram machine cost $460,000. The total cost of the center was $650,000.
